The Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago is committed to a vision that there should be 'no avoidable death, harm or suffering' in its daily mission of care for patients, research, and medical education.
This vision is to be accomplished through: 1) a departmental commitment to understanding and monitoring of key inpatient and outpatient clinical processes and outcomes; 2) translation of best evidence for the care of these conditions into practice; 3) care that the benefits of medical knowledge and improvement extend to vulnerable groups in society; and 4) a thorough integration of quality and safety perspectives into activities supporting this mission.
